I briefly lived worked and played in detroit a few years back… it should have come as no surprise that Motown is a place with soul! I was really stuck by the juxtaposition of wealth in the city. When I inquired it was explained to me that mass transit had much to do with it. Because its the motor city, there is very little light rail throughout the DTA. Due to this, it is very difficult for people with low income jobs to get to work. Enter the Detroit Bus Company.

I was really struck by how good of an idea this is. What a classic example of seeing a problem and setting out to fix it. Its these stories that are fueling the startup culture in the us.
