I was definitely on of those kids given the opportunity would always pick a project to do over a test. If you think about it, most people don’t use tests in the real world. Turns out some do though. Now that I am learning rails, I’ve come to the part of learning “test driven development”.
If you aren’t familiar with test driven development, here is a good simple explanation http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/the-newbies-guide-to-test-driven-development/ Its the method of writing tests to see if your code works before you actually code.
I think its a fascinating way to work, but man, have I hit a road block. I thought I could brute force my way into the development world. Unfortunately its more like the art world then I thought. I definitely need to put the time in to learn to develop the right way… so for now, back to work.
